Grand Resort Bad Ragaz is situated in eastern Switzerland, surrounded by mountains in the “Heidiland” holiday region, about an hour’s drive from Zurich, and is considered Europe’s leading well-being and medical health resort.
Switzerland’s largest spa
Switzerland’s largest spa – and one of the 10 best spas in the world according to Conde Nast Traveller selection – is outstanding simply because it’s Swiss.
Since its currency was decoupled from the euro in January 2015, the country has become so expensive that only its most outstanding hotels, restaurants, and spas are surviving. But Bad Ragaz had a head start in honing excellence.
Back when the waters were discovered in the 13th century, people were scared of the heat and its association with hell. It was the famous 16th-century Swiss alchemist Paracelsus who turned the public on to the healthy traits of the water. Ultimately, a stream of famous guests were to pass through, from Hugo, Rilke, Mann, and Nietzsche, to generations of Russian nobility as well.
The selection of well-being and relaxation offerings is supplemented by the internationally renowned, state-of-the-art, Medical Health Centre. Its services range from weight loss to check-ups, beauty treatments, and preventive medicine. Staffed by more than 70 doctors and therapists skilled in everything from dermatology and internal medicine to vein treatments and sports-injury rehab. The sport medicine department is officially recognized as Swiss Olympic Medical Center since 2014 and the resort hosts several pro teams pre-season training from Borussia Dortmund to Wolfsburg Bundesliga teams for example.
